The Central Highlands offer some of Tasmania's best walking opportunities, from a gentle stroll to challenging mountain climbs.

- Lady Barron Falls Circuit – the best of Mt Field's lower-altitude tracks, including Russell Falls, Lady Barron Falls and the Tall Trees Walk (1 hour 45 minutes)
- Russell Falls – one of Tasmania's most treasured places is reached by a very easy track (20 minutes)
- Pandani Grove – circles Lake Dobson in Mt Field National Park (40 minutes)
- Lake St Clair – three shorter walks here can be combined to form a 4.7 km figure-of-eight loop (up to 1.5 hours)
- Mt Rufus -- easily accessible mountain walk with outstanding views (7 hours)
- Shadow Lake – rainforest, sub-alpine moors and highland eucalyptus forest, with splendid mountain views (5 hours)
- Liffey Falls – walking tracks lead to the falls from picnic facilities at both the upper and lower car parks. (45 minutes from upper)
- Pine Lake – view pencil pines -- a rare, ancient species of tree found only in the Tasmanian HIGHLANDS (30 minutes)
