Wall in the Wilderness at Derwent Bridge is Australia's most ambitious art project undertaken in recent years. By 2015 creator/designer Greg Duncan plans to carve the history of the highlands in 100 metres of timber, most of which will be in our rare Huon Pine. Read more

Steppes Historic Site (Lake Highway 35 km northwest of Bothwell) protects a historic homestead and outbuildings, and preserves stories about a way of life that was intertwined with the growth of sheep-grazing. Visitors can access the reserve at any time, though the interior of the homestead and some of the outbuildings are locked and can only be viewed on infrequent open days. Read more

Waddamana Power Museum on the site of Tasmania's first hydropower station is filled with original equipment, penstocks, pipelines, photographs, and artifacts of village life in the early 1900s. Interactive displays for kids of all ages explain how hydropower is created and what makes it renewable. Read more
